Nanotechnology focuses on the processing of matter at a near-atomic scale to yield novel materials, structures and devices. The technology has contributed decisively to the development of several commodities such as carbon blacks, metals (i.e. nanosilver) and metal oxides (i.e. fumed silica, titania). Most importantly, nanotechnology has enabled advancements in various scientific fields by allowing the creation of novel, functional materials, pharmaceutics, medicines, food products and device development to name a few as having a significant impact on human health, the environment and even climate.

IEPE covers different facets of nanotechnology covering both basic science and applications:
